The ambitious project to build a cross-border tunnel between Denmark and Germany is moving steadily forward under the leadership of the Spanish consortium formed by SICE – COBRA, which was awarded the design and construction of the Fehmarnbelt Tunnel’s electromechanical installations.
This monumental piece of infrastructure, approximately 18 kilometres long, will connect Fehmarn Island with Rødbyhavn, becoming a key axis for logistics development and mobility in Europe.
Cutting-edge engineering infrastructure
The tunnel design includes five galleries: two for bidirectional rail traffic, two for road traffic in both directions and an additional service gallery. This multifunctional layout meets the connectivity and safety requirements that a project of this scale demands. In this context, Aptica is working closely with SICE to ensure connectivity along the entire length of the tunnel as well as in every ancillary facility that forms part of the project.
State-of-the-art technologies for efficiency and safety
The tunnel is equipped with a sophisticated telecommunications system to meet operational and safety needs. The technologies deployed include:
- TETRA:Communication platform for emergency services in both countries.
- FM and DAB (Switched): Also used for broadcasting warnings and alerts in emergency situations.
- GSM-R: Specialised railway communications.
- Mobile telephony: Providing broadband mobile coverage along the entire tunnel.
These systems are designed to guarantee operational efficiency and uncompromising safety, reflecting the technical rigour that characterises the project.
