Aptica is part of the consortium of companies and research centers developing the Cognitive Hospital project, which aims to create an intelligent platform based on innovative technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), advanced algorithms, BIM, Big Data, among others. Its development and implementation will optimize the design, construction, operation, and maintenance processes, enhance energy efficiency and air quality in hospital assets, and reduce the environmental footprint of the infrastructure during both construction and operation phases.

The project is being developed by a consortium of eight companies led by Sacyr Concesiones, with additional participation from Sacyr Ingeniería e Infraestructuras and the Sacyr corporation . Alongside Aptica, the consortium includes Sener Mobility, Fracttal, 4Digital, Open Ingenius, and as collaborators BE-IN-G and the Tecnalia, UPM and CSIC.

Aptica‘s role in the project, together with BE-IN-G and UPM, is to meet all the connectivity requirements needed for the new use cases to be deployed by the rest of the partners:

• Analysis of existing methodologies for applying multi-technology networks.
• Research on new algorithms to evaluate the performance of heterogeneous connectivity networks.
• Development of a network design optimization tool that, along with XIRIO-ONLINE , can automatically plan the combined deployment of technologies such as 5G, WiFi, and/or LoraWan
• Development and implementation of an automatic control platform for the multi-technology communication network once all use cases are deployed.

These tools will enable a robust and stable network that ensures comprehensive connectivity across all work areas, increasing coverage and connection speed in zones without network service, and facilitating interconnection of internal monitoring and control processes, as well as daily activity tracking within the hospital.

This is an ambitious project with a budget of 6.1 million euros and a grant of 2.9 million from the Community of Madrid. These funds are part of the 2023 aid call to improve public-private cooperation in R&D through consortium-based tractor effect projects.

The implementation of the COGNITIVE HOSPITAL project Research and development of technologies for the management and maintenance of a smart hospital (file number 59/178676.9/23), will take place at Hospital del Henares (Coslada, Madrid), managed by Sacyr Concesiones. It is subsidized through the 2023 call for grants to enhance public-private cooperation in R&D through tractor effect projects in consortia, co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund under the Community of Madrid’s ERDF Operational Program 2021–2027.
